The service
Voco is a desktop app that reads on-screen text aloud. Its standard voices are generated locally on your computer — that text never leaves your machine to be spoken. Optional premium voices and AI summaries are processed through Voco's servers.
Open beta — everything is free
• Voco is in open beta. Every feature is free right now — no payment, no card, no account.
• That includes the premium voices and the AI summaries, not just the on-device voices.
• There is nothing to cancel, because there is nothing being charged.
Standard (on-device) voices — free, always
• Unlimited listening with all standard voices, which generate speech on your own computer.
• Shortcuts, the selection bubble, the floating player, and listening stats — all included.
• These stay free after the beta ends.
Premium voices and AI summaries
• Free during the beta, subject to the fair-use limits below.
• When beta ends there will be a small monthly fee for these cloud features. We'll say so clearly before anything is ever charged, and nobody is charged automatically.
• When premium hours are used up, reading continues automatically on the standard voices — playback is never blocked.
Fair use
Premium-voice hours and AI summaries carry a monthly allowance so the beta stays sustainable; hours are measured as generated audio time and reset on the 1st. We may adjust limits for abuse, automation, or resale. Because the beta is free, no billing is in place and no payment details are collected.
Privacy
Standard-voice speech happens entirely on-device. Premium-voice and summary requests send the selected text to our server, which passes it to ElevenLabs (voice) or Anthropic (summaries) and streams the result back; we don't store your text. Listening stats shown in the app are stored only on your computer. We keep anonymous usage counters (premium seconds, summary counts) keyed to your license or a machine identifier to enforce plan limits.
